20 years ago, I bought a 499 distributor from a guy who worked at a Cardone warehouse. He would look through the remanufactured stock for desirable numbers for alternators and distributors. It had the wrong vacuum advance on it, but the guy was not interested in looking for the correct one. I went to a local O'Riley's and talked to the store manager, was more that happy to order 5 and let me look at them. One of the 5 had the correct advance so with the manager's fupp approval, I bought it switched out the vacuum advance, and returned it with the other advance on it. Needless to say, he was a real car guy. Since then, I have never even set foot in any auto parts store other than that one.
