Yes,GM used them throughout the 1960's/70's.Unless someone has already changed it before you,I would.

Post Timing gear/chain...

The last one I did was so loose it just about fell off in my hand when the timing cover was removed...and that was on a 33,000 mile car

Best insurance for a big block...check those valve springs, keepers etc...they can be a problem, too.
