I have been racing for almost 30 years. I would NEVER run anything other than a spool when going faster than 11.0. I did run in the mid 10's with my 2900# small block car using a stock GM 12 bolt posi with ring gear spacer and never broke it but since I needed aftermarket axles anyway when I changed the gears I went with a 33 spline spool. Running mid 9's with a 3300#+ car and a trans brake with anything other than a spool is asking for a disaster.
