Back I’d say in 1999/2000 my father bought a beat up 86 Monte Carlo SS off the side of the road for $500! Drove it home and it sat for a while and I ask him what he was gonna do with it and he says you want it you can have it.I took it home pulled the small block 400 turbo out of it and sold the body! A friend stopped over one night and we were standing there shooting the sh@t and hes looking at that small block and says you know that’s a 69 DZ 302 right! So needless to say I listed it in the old trading times for best offer and the first guy that looked at it gave me $4500 for it!

In 1969 my father bought his GTO new (still owns it) And by 1970 he was looking for a second car as my mother needed something. Our neighbor had a 69 Z/28 he bought new and was now looking to sell. Frost Green, white interior and a Rally Sport. He wanted $2500 for it. I remember my father talking about how good of a deal that was for a 1 year old car. Dad even test drove and liked the car, he had always had high strung small blocks with 4 speeds prior to the GTO purchase, but in the end just couldn't swing 2 car payments and had to pass on it. He ended up buying a cheap Honda motorcycle to ride to work so my mother could drive the GTO.
Fast forward, I own a 69 RS Z/28 that is also Frost Green with white interior. Not the same car, but it reminds dad of the one that got away. |
