I recall (yes I'm that old) all of the brand new Chevy engines in the '60's and early '70's all having a pretty faded orange color even when new.. and certainly none had the deep color and perfect coverage as shown here in these posts..
My own 302 block now is much too bright with better coverage than any engine I ever had or saw 'back in the day' mostly because I just got carried away too much when painting it,
but overall any brand new car I ever bought in the '60's or later had what amounted to almost a flat orange color which quite quickly flattened even more upon usage (or faded off due to heat cycles) and overall amounted to pretty poor coverage all told.
Just my own observations from years past!
