There are some guys out there that believe it can't be a real SS because of the vin. But, I believe the SS package became a trim package in 69 and did not require the 138 VIN, correct?

Looks like a great car to start with.

Correct. RPO Z15 is the SS 396 option for the Chevelle and El Camino. There is nothing on the Tag/VIN that will tell you it's a SS 396.
