In 74 it was the Roadrunner and the GTX was an option package. They only made 79 with the 440 and 6 pack option.

I have always heard that there were - literally - a handful of 72's made very early in the model year with the 440-6 option, only because there were a few left over from 71 production....after that, the factory 440-6 was no more. Where did you get the 79 number?

This is not correct on several levels: - The Six Pack (properly Six Barrel for Plymouth) was discontinued very early in the 1972 model year. - The number "79" has been floating around for years but the correct number is 386 U.S.-spec cars. Otherwise, the GTX was discontinued for 1972, but order a 440 for the Road Runner and you'd receive GTX badges. This Road Runner/GTX continued through 1974. |
