I had a similar experience. Bought an engine from a "reputable" seller via the Internet, claimed to have only been run a short time, his friend wanted a milder engine, etc., etc. I buy it and it sat as you see it for a few years. I finally let my buddy tear it down and he uncovered all manner of mayhem. Crank was 10-10 (not mentioned) and scored, heads were junk and suffered a gasket failure, heads milled (not mentioned) too much (note valve seats) and couldn't be saved, rocker arms moved off valve stems and damaged the retainers on several valves. Block is being saved and my buddy had the crank polished. I've known my buddy since high school and he is a great guy so I let him have the whole mess for free. He sent me one of the junk alloy heads and he kept the other for desk art in his office. I'll hang mine on the wall in my garage as a memory of how stupid I was to believe what the seller claimed.
