Default Re: Yukon positraction for GM 10-bolt ?

The 8.5" Ten bolt is the most popular and strongest. It came with 28 spline axles until around 1988- then it had 30 spline. It continued to evolve to somewhere around 2000 I think with an 8.6 ring gear.

The 8.2 Ten bolt from the 1960's stopped around 1971 or so. It has a much weaker pinion than the 8.5 rears. I never tried to put the 8.5 in a 8.2 housing. It wouldn't be a bolt in, but I'm not sure it couldn't be made to work by a determined guy. The axles you could upgrade to new or used 12 bolt axles.
