I checked the VIN's and build dates on the 2 69 L78 Novas we had...our cars were built in the late winter and spring of 69 and the VIN numbers reflect that. The VIN sequence for the 1969 Willow Run cars started at 300001.
There were over 250,000 Novas built in 1969...that VIN represents an early built car....not sure how to balance that against the casting date location. I always default to the casting date when things are confusing. Colvin's book says this block was used thru June of 1969...but this casting date is July..?? I don't believe they built 1969 Novas into September of 1969...the 1970 cars were being produced by that time...but, like all things GM...you never know It might be helpful to see the deck stamp...but in the end, it won't really change anything...the casting number/date are what they are. So, if you need a 4 bolt 272 block...here it is. wilma http://novaresource.org/production.htm
