Is the thermostat housing a corvette one? I have never seen one like that or never noticed it.

The thermostat was used on 1964-1967 Corvette 327-350 and 365hp engines as well as 1965-1967 Chevelle L-79 and 1966 Nova L-79.

1965 L79s w 461 intake had the thermo housing outlet point toward the passenger side as the upper radiator hose was on the passenger side.

Nope. '65-'67 Corvette L-79's ALL had the thermostat housing outlet and upper radiator hose on the driver's side, as all '63-'67 small-block Corvettes used the same radiator - no exceptions.
