My 69 Nova is a few weeks away from paint. I in love with the 69 Rallye green color. So far it looks like I'm leaning towards PPG Deltron 2000 #43898 Rallye green. It references lighter than prime on the mix label. I had my body shop do a spray out and it looks nice. Before I spend the big bucks I want to make sure there isn't another paint company that is dead on to this old GM color? I am trying to replicate the exact color back in 69. Am I crazy? Has anyone else on here had any luck, or can give me advice on finding the exact factory formula? Thanks Mike

Mike , please keep me informed of your progress, and I would love to see pics!!! I have a 69 Rally Green L78 Nova , that I am thinking of painting and returning it to its original colour! This car has never been Rally Green since about June of 1970 !!

I'm also very interested. I have a documented 69 Nova SS L78/M22/ bench car with the original drive train and interior. The previous owner had the car painted Daytona Yellow because he was not fussy about the Rallye Green. I bought .the car with the intention of bringing it back to the original colour but that never happened after 15 years.

There are several original paint RG cars out there. My painter sprayed a dozen slight variations of RG panels before I decided on the one that I liked best. I was a little intimidated to park it next to Larry's original paint RG Yenko at the Camaro nationals. Turned out they were nearly identical!

I saw a Rally Green 69 Camaro several years ago at the Camaro Nationals when it was still in Carlisle that looked dead on. Restored by Mickey Hale Restorations. Might check with him.

Just remember that paint varies by plant, by batch, by painter, by surrounding conditions, humidity, prep - etc. Also - paints fade.....especially after 40+ years....this fade also depends on climate, storage etc. Plus todays paints are totally different. Metallic is worse.....the metallic components are a different size and consistency. I have seen painters do 50+ spray-outs to nail a color match.....only to have the paint "flip" and do all kinds of other tricks in the shade vs outside...etc. Not an answer - just something to keep in mind. The biggest thing with metallics is the air pressure. You can change the color by adjusting the air pressure, and today's metallics versus then is very different. Spray gun technology is so much advanced over the guns used back then. They did not have HVLP spray guns back then either. And even with todays technology GM still can't get paint on the bottom of P/U tailgates and hinges.
