| 74 throwback Flint MI, General Motors Institute

thought I would throw these out there, some future engineers for General Motors ... (one was one of the 1LE engineers) This was the parking lot of the school, the north side (autoshop) / "proving grounds" 6 cylinder bow tie show down with a real non cowl hood non spoiler 69 Z (owned by Mike Pollum at the time) near the finish line Note: this was 1974 and the Biscayne was a "winter beater" (hence the snow tires ... yes, Michigan people drove them all year) It was a 50's party weekend, 71 LS6 Corvette in background owned by Dale Youngpeter, 72 SS396 4 speed Camaro owned by Mike Scarletelli (sp?) my Rochester Fuel Injected (68 Z 302 engine) '56 DelRay that evening (check the "personalized" (e)NVY (my) 302 plates)

Jim, That was a great time for Flint. Thanks for sharing! Kettering (GMI) has pictures in the tunnel of road racing at this location too. |

Thanks for bringing back memories! There were some fast cars at GMI back then. Muchler's '66 Chevelle with an L88, Colhagen's '69 L78 Nova, Clemen's '69 Z, Rabb's '62 Corvette, Armstrong's '66 K Mustang - just a few that come to mind.

Thanks for posting - 1984 graduate of GMI here (and former "Firebirds Car Club" president). My diploma has "General Motors Institute" on one side and "GMI Engineering and Management Institute" on the other. Mike Scarlatelli is still working, over in the pre-production shops. Marra Bara graduated in our class (although I don't remember her from that time). Dad worked at "Chevy in the Hole" for 32 years. K

Looks like there was a lot of pin stripe tape on that 72 Camaro SS Scarlatelli owned.
