Ok I like the car too and would have left it the way it is. In fact, my 1961 CANADIAN Pontiac Parisienne "BUBBLE TOP" is that way. I DID do the seats and carpet, did complete brakes and replaced all the front end suspension stuff. That was just to make it safe and drive-able.

BODY is left with rust and holes. Just putting in a 409/425Hp deal with the T-10 4 speed. I DID letter the car to go with the rough body issues to make the car look like a old race car from back in the 60's though.

Part of the problem is that people don't or WILL NOT want to get that upside down on a "standard" car. Now a L78 rag, sure you'll get most or all the investment back. YOU might be very right, find another RS/SS rag with red interior??? MIGHT not ever happen, but you could possibly find a black interior one for the cost of the resto???

The thing is IF you pay/do the resto, you know what you got and what is done. I think the market is out of hand right now, and that might never change.

Yes, I did change my post. What I wrote is I think too many people mis manage their restorations. I think you can do some of these cars with a lot of the easier labor by yourself, and then farm out the rest you cant do. If it means saving $10K on a paint job, then buy a gun from eastwood and do it yourself. TRY. I painted maybe 4 showcar paint jobs when I was a lot younger (in laquer) in my dads garage. It was not that hard (most of the time was blocking and wet sanding, mostly all prep stuff). I think most of the people are getting suckered out there over $10-20K paint jobs, and this is crazy. PAY to have someone do the body work. Many shops are willing to work with you, just to get work moving through. Interview the body guy, make sure he does his welds like they were in production.

I hope more people buy a car like this one, factor in what is done already (engine done, quarter installed, new front fenders, and new floors) and just finish it off economically. I don't see anyone being into this car for $65K. Buy it for 30K or less, and then have it blasted for under 1K, painted at maako for 1K labor, come back and rub it out, and move on. My rant was why always look at restorations as another 30-35K, when this car has a lot done to it already, plus it comes with a lot of parts. I bet a smart guy will buy this car, and be all in for under $45K (or less).
