I think there is a difference too from 69 versus the 70's models but I don't know for sure. My Z was radioless when I bought it so I installed one from a 70 Chevelle to fill the hole. From what I understand and I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong, sorry guys no biggy, with the radio off on a 69, the dial light is off too, and when you turn on the dash lights the light still doesn't come on until the radio is turned on. IIRC the radio I put in my Z, the dial light comes on with the dash lights even if the radio is off. Of course this is for the AM radio, so I don't know about the stereo radios.

There was a change in the wiring harness connection right around that time. As I recall, there is a short connector harness that will solve the problem when putting a 70 radio in a 69.
