cars with vintage american racing wheels

my Z and Corvette. They're new Americans but still look great!

This thread makes me ill - I wanted to put some on my 1968 Z but I can't get any of them that I tried, to clear the calipers on my car!
The few that I tried were Torque Thrust ii's - but I assume that all of the regular wheels by American Racing would carry the same problem in that the outside edge of the centre hub seems too big and contacts the edge of my caliper when tightened down and binds.
The calipers are the same as a Corvette from 1967/1968 from what I am told.. J52 option I think it was for '68 Z 2/8 models and are stock to my car..
I would love to be able to order some but the problem is dealers here are reluctant to order some for me thinking I will just want to return them when they won't work for me - and from my experience so far I have to admit I sort of can understand their reluctance.
Anyone ever hear of this before?
I sent a couple of emails to AR requesting some feedback regarding this- but never got any replies..
I would really like to get some - but because I live in an area where there aren't any places that stock any and only order in what is required by customers, there aren't many options to try very many other wheels other than what I have so far (they were ones that were already destined for customers).
I'm not keen on the only solutions proposed to me - change calipers or have a machinist cut the back edge of the hub edge for clearance on a brand new set of wheels, so am I not anxious to get some I feel probably wouldn't fit unless I start changing things...
Any suggestions?

Have you tried using a 1/4 spacer between the rim and roter? This should help clear up any clearance issues.

This is one situation where it's nice to have drum brakes! (Vintage TTs.) You'll either need to cough-up the bucks for original D-spoke/&quot;crow's-foot&quot; Americans (you'll be in competition with Corvette guys and they spend $$$ for originals) or buy new American D-spokes. I think the new TTOs clear calipers too so check that out. Spacers will work but will push the wheels out and, IMO, make the car look funny. Vintage Wheel Works makes a nice retro-look five-spoke too.

<span style="font-weight: bold">realzed</span> check your private messages. I can tell you that no current American Racing TTO, T70R, or TTD will fit your front disc brakes. I ran into this problem and found a guy to help me locate the correct wheels. New Halibrands will clear the brakes and look like the old Torque Thrust D from the 60's.

Thank you (and others) for clearing some of this up for me and making me feel a lot more 'sane' again..
I've been told numerous times when I've asked about my wheel fitting problems - that &quot;your calipers are wrong for your car&quot; or &quot;somebody has screwed around with your car and its not original&quot; or the most common.. &quot;what are you doing wrong to not be able to put a wheel on your car correctly&quot; - from so many different sources..
As much as I feel better it still doesn't help the fact that I will have to probably spend more than I would wish and yet still not get exactly 'the look' I desire for my car, in order to achieve this..
Funny (mostly) part is: I spoke to a very nice and personable Zone Rep for American Racing at a route 66 race in Chicago a few years back and he, while offering me a fantastic deal on some wheels, offered no plausible excuse or reason why such wheels would not fit on my car with 4 piston calipers as I had described it to him - yet he was willing to ship me some immediately and agreed they would look amazing on a Z 2/8 model such as I had.. This was from him - &quot;maybe you can find a machinist that would trim off a bit of the hub 'to get you on the road'&quot; - this all pertaining to a new set of wheels he would sell and deliver to me, and AFTER fielding my fitment questions?!!
