Everyone seems to have overlooked "Bandstand", as in American Bandstand. Bandstand info on wiki
One of our local stations carried it way earlier than 1957 but I can't seem to recall who the front man was. We even had a local version called "Hoosier Favorite" that was on on late Saturday afternoons, with dancing and records and local bands. It was a part of growing up in the 50's.
