Actually, I didn't make it to the York show last year. I had a spinal fusion in March of 2013 and missed most if the "season". I did the "Solid Lifter Showroom" but was quite immobile and had to have help loading, unloading, setting up the display, etc.
1972 did have some "weird" stripe colors in the Oldsmobile line-up. The choices for that Flame Orange (much like my '72 Sequoia Green) were limited to solid colors only with no metallic hues. I went "out of the box" and chose #53 Saturn Gold to accompany the Sequoia Green. I think it works very well together and probably would have with the Flame Orange, too.
Back to the '72 at the York show---I HAVE seen the car you are referring to and it is a GREAT looking car, and I believe it to be very original.
