What an awesome weekend!!!

First and foremost, seeing Pete’s cars together was unbelievable, and spending time with Vicki, Eric, Owen and the many other family and friends from North of the border was extra special.. Thanks to all who made it happen.

Hats off to Jeanne and the staff at Gateway Motorsports Park who really rolled out the red carpet for us. On Friday we they allowed us easy access to the drag strip to park, unload and hang out for a while, then for two hours we had the whole drag strip to ourselves. Hats off to the many owners who took to the track, as it is always cool to see these special cars do what they were built to do.

Once we put the cars away, we went to a local restaurant, Ravanellis, who provided us with an awesome meal. And it was nice of Vicki to say a few words about Pete, I am sure it was not easy.

For Saturday’s activities, Gateway had us set up inside the oval track next to the show area, where we had special parking for our tow rigs, a covered area (NASCAR garages) to display our cars, as well as sit and relax. We were to make a pass Saturday morning but a little glitch popped up preventing this, but mid afternoon several of our group got to make a couple of passes around Gateway’s NASCAR track, with at least one member “airing it out” as he went down the backstretch. Needless to say this is frowned upon by the Gateway staff, which no doubt as Pete was watching from above, he had a good laugh. Saturday evening we were able to make a pass down the 1/4 during “prime time”. To top it off, Gateway even had special dash plaques for us, honoring “COPOPETE”. Mine will be proudly displayed on the dash of the Deuce.

Not only were we honoring Pete’s memory, but Bill Hunter was there, who just happens to be an original owner of a Yenko Camaro. This past year he lost both his wife, who always traveled to the SCR with him, and a good racing buddy, who Bill raced at one of the past SCRs. Bill made a side by side pass with his good friend’s son Saturday evening. In addition, Keith Shockley was there with his family’s Yenko Camaro, which, along with his late father Jim, has participated in several SCRs.

Before we left, Gateway extended an invitation for the SCR to return to their facility in 2014. Sounds good to me.

In closing, thanks to Bill and Rita for the special artwork, Cumby for the stickers and dash cards, Dan for the great pics, and the many who pitched in to pay for the banquet meal. If I have missed mentioning someone who helped make this very special event happen, please accept my apology.

Great to see Rob and the Yellow Sub back on the track after a lengthy layoff. I believe a 12.06 ET.

Kind of odd how the cruise came about. When Gateway told me/Rob about it, we both said thanks, but we seriously doubt any of our group will want to do that. Then Saturday afternoon, as the show cars went by us headed onto the oval, we noticed several from our group headed that way, so I told Rob to get Drew and join them with the '69 Nova.

The pace laps did look like fun but I barely had enough fuel to load my pig back in the trailer.
Howie thought about it but his speed & RTs were so bad he woulda been two laps down on a four lap run.

More on that soon.
