----Thanks, Buddy! I just figured we all would know why the valley would be slathered with paint. Never did see any definitive proof as to weather it did any good or not, but we all paid attention to this kind of stuff.....Bill S

We used Rustoleum Red(some high end guys used GE Glyptal)...in the lifter valleys, top of cylinder heads, timing chain area, etc...I remember spending a weekend cleaning the casting flash off the heads and lifter valley, washing and prepping the block and then painting everything. Like Bill said...not sure it made a difference but it looked cool...I guess we figured it couldn't hurt.

Folks, went back looking at this car. Do those ports appear correct for the l72?

"- The L72 was not the same motor as the 427/435 in the Vette"

Diego,

Other than induction (3 X 2 vs. 4 Barrel Holley)all the internal parts are the same for a L-71 & a L-72 Big Block I thought.

Rick,

My thoughts exactly. I own a 1966 Impala SS-396 coupe with factory A/C that's loaded with buckets, console, tinted glass, 2 spoke wheel and factory trunk release. It takes twice as much money & time to do a car like this correctly and when you're done, you get half as much money as a Camaro or Chevelle. lucky for me I have a ton of NOS parts to restore it.

Ok, but do the ports appear correct to you? They appear oval and I thought l72 were rectangle/square? But I'm certainly no expert.

You are showing the exhaust ports. Not the intake ports.
