We used to do the A-pillar/floor cut clips too and done correctly were clean fixes.
Lots were low mile 70's X-body cars and we'd use whatever nice parts were available sometimes leaving the resulting mixed styles...Novas/Omegas w/ Ventura/Apollo noses etc.
Most people didn't notice or give a care and occasionally I'd spot these crossbreeds later on the street.

You are correct. When done right, there is no practical difference between one of those cars a one that has never been hit. And it is way better than one that had to have sheet metal replacment or the frame pulled. My boss used to live for the days he could find two mustangs the same year and same color. On those he would almost always just paint the rocker and put on a vinyl top.
