Thanks Pete, but I'm still not sure what year. Maybe I should just
ask which one is correct for a 67-68. This is the one I have looks just like the blue ones in the link but is red and some one stated that the red ones where later but would like to make sure. Tony

Hello...I seen these for sale and I would ask the seller. By his collection and apparent knowledge would lead me to believe he lives in the L.A. area. I finally found the correct set for my 1970 year auto but I had a picture of an original unmolested station wagon that was sold new a month from my car to go by. Xplant.. or Rpo.. may be able to help you pin point what type you need. Xplant..s brother has an original CONE sold 67 SS/RS Camaro. I know you would like to have the period correct ones but I spent 8-9 years finding mine. If I could put a price on my time I could've bought these black ones you have pictured. If it were me I would get these and if the ones you are after pop up in the future then resell these. Thats just me and not trying to help the guy who is selling these in the least. My guess is these Black ones are from the late 70s or 80s but I cannot confirm. CONE was in business from 1920s-1990s. Frames became popular in the late 50s when the plates were standard size as we se today. Another way you may be able to tell a 67-68 era is to look at a DANA license frame as the same company Robert Brown made them for both dealerships, frames along with 100s of other dealerships in that area. Color should not be a concern as you will probably rechrome and repaint anyhow. My guess is that the checkered design variations are what you need. Hope this helps.

What's on the back of the black ones above? That may help in determining a date...

Some of the very early and later frames don't have any markings on them. I have three generations of Clippinger Chevrolet frames and only one set is marked with a vendor.
I would say the Cone frames in the first post are quite old, probably early 1960s. The matte finish chrome around the border is an old design. |
