BTW Sam, since you're stuck here in God's country, if you need anyone else to handle those pesky jobs like Dave just suffered through, ................

I had a great time being involved in this video shoot. I was contacted by the production company out of LA, they asked me if I would like to rent out the car for a day. They found the car by a Craigslist for sale ad for the GTO in the Phoenix area. Our car was picked out of about a half dozen cars, Cyril the star of the video liked the GTO the best. I made sure they knew it was an unrestored car with 176,000 miles and is a "10, maybe 20 footer". I also made sure that Cyril knew how to drive a stick.

I was assured they didn't want a "perfect" car and since Cyril was from France a stick wasn't a problem. Everyone involved was first class, Cyril was a nice guy and Julie was a sweetheart as nice as she was cute. When I first drove up in the GTO she ran out and insisted on a ride, so I took one for the team and took her for her first 67 GTO ride. This car has been in storage for quite some time and is the first time it has been driven since the Hemmings photo shoot last year. So of course in the middle of everything the radiator started leaking and then the fuel pump went out. I was surprised to find out there aren't 67 GTO fuel pumps sitting on the shelf at every parts place in town. I ended up getting an electric fuel pump and bypassing the mechanical one, that and a some stop leak got us back in operation. Everyone there was surprised that we were able to fix the car and get back on track. It did cost us some of the shoot time with the helicopter, but the video turned out pretty well.

This was my first experience dealing with the video industry and it was a pleasent experience. Shot down a lot of stereotypes I had. The set was catered and everyone was extremely nice. Julie even hunted me down when I was loading the car at the end of the day to say goodbye. Even when the car broke down no-one got annoyed, they assured me it was typical, they always have problems of one sort or another. Some of the scenes were even shot with the car being towed on my trailer while I was chasing down parts.
They were very careful around the car and always asked me if they could do anything with it. I made quite a few contacts, the local production company involved said they are always looking for cars for commercials and the like. They especially like convertibles. The helicopter company also took my card because they need an extra pilot from time to time.

I couldn't tell you how many times virtually everyone on the set told me they loved the car and how perfect it was for this video. I would gladly do it all over again even though it was a long day. I will post a few pics when I can get my photobucket account to cooperate.
