Sometimes those short filters can bite ya. There is not enough air that circulates around the carb so the carb can become flooded because the ac lid is way to close to the air breather tube in the front of the carb. Like putting your hand over the carb to flood it. Found that out on my old corvette around 3,000 rpm or so.
