Sam,
I would have left your alternator alone. Although I've seen some 70 model year alternators with the pronounced hook on them, most don't have it. I use the hook style on 68-69 dates and the other smaller tab style on 70's. My take is the hook style is earlier than the same profile fan without. Chris
