No waiver...but there is a disclaimer...the first paragraph just about covers it.

All the video's I've seen of the crash were the same view, until I saw another view on the news. They showed the view from the tower, looking down the track. It showed the what happened to the wheel, after it started bouncing away. I couldn't believe how fast and how high that wheel went into the spectator areas. It was hard to tell how high it went, but it was unbelievable.

It hit the ground several times, bouncing just as high each time. It had to be going 100mph. Anyone who was in the path of that wheel was in trouble. After seeing the scene, I'm surprised only one person was killed.

Last year I was the alert pilot for one of the days at Firebird and for the spring Nascar event.. We have the contract for the NHRA, IHBA (boats) at Firebird and both NASCAR events at PIR. Pretty rare to fly anyone at any of the events, happened a couple years ago for one of the boat drivers. I think it has been since the 70's since a spectator has been killed at an NHRA event. A lot more dangerous driving to and from the track, wonder how many spectators have been killed on their way home from the track? Everything in life has risk, sometimes you are in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I do know Richard Petty had a similar drag racing incident in '65 that killed a seven year old boy. It was probably one of the reasons he returned to NASCAR.

That and they lifted the Hemi ban in 66.
