I have no idea whatever happened to that Camaro, I remember that trip to his shop. The Camaro was his new race car and he was so excited and proud of it.
I think he might have been a little bummed, cause I kept saying "I like the blue car." The blue car was a 1966 SS Chevelle that was his old race car. ![]() So this guy is really to blame, or take credit depending how you look at it for me liking Chevelles. |

I am glad you guys like the pictures, I was always bummed that I never had a more clear picture of the Chevelle.
I lost touch with Danny as I grew older and he died in the 90s. Here is where the story gets interesting... Fast forward to June 21, 2008. My son and I went the Steel Valley Nationals at Quaker City Raceway in Salem, OH. We didnt take the Chevelle but armed with the camera we walked the show field and were snapping up pictures. We came across a blue 66 Chevelle. I told my son that a close friend of my dad's used to race a car like this when I was about 6. As I told my son that I really liked the car the owner came over, and I reiterated that I knew a guy that raced a 66 here at Quaker. The guy said how long ago? I told him it had been about 30 or so years. He asked me the guys name and I told him Danny Young. Well the guy just about fell over. He said, "This is his old car, my dad bought it from him in about 1978". When he said that I about fell over. The guy was really cool too which was a big bonus, because I asked him if had any pictures of the car before he had it painted. He did, so I took some pictures of his pictures. Here are a few. Figure the odds. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
