1. I will assume nothing is rubbing, shroud harness ect?

2. When rotating it by hand does it

a.feel stiff (could be old grease in the collars)

b. gritty sounding (rust or other abrasives in the rotating collars)

c. or is notchy feeling, (worn ign switch or bent actuator rod)

A) Stiff.

Dripped some oil into the area where the lower bearing is and spent some time just working it back and forth by hand with the rod off. Seems to have helped some. Still would like to know what is going on. I have never had a steering column completely apart aside from pulling out the innards at the top to replace the ignition switch and key buzzer.

IT's not bad to take apart. The 69 Chev Chassis manual covers it. I just completely disassembled cleaned and painted the one for the 69 Z I am restoring.
