Allright.....here's my OPINION. (You asked.)

Though '66 Plymouth Satellite and '66 Charger Hemis are among my favorites, I have always been ASTOUNDED how unloved they are compared to '68-70 cars, particularly since the engine is essentially the same. But the image, and thus demand just isn't there. They will always be the "bargain" of Hemi cars, due to less demand and relatively high production numbers.

The lack of options is drag-oriented and cool, but we're not talking an actual drag package car like a '67 WO23, so it DOESN'T ADD VALUE in the end. It becomes a buyer preference issue. In the same condition I don't believe this car brings any more money than a bucket seat loaded Coronet hardtop in good colors. Just buyers with different tastes.

Finally, though it sounds like a very nice car, I see a full repaint in its future. It sounds like it was a drag car in its previous life and was going to be a FAST-type warrior, so the trim probably has some "patina" that isn't going to go with a show repaint. I know you believe the exterior is all that needs to be shot, but on $50K plus cars, its a leap of faith to hope that you're going to get a perfect blend with the old paint when you redo it. Its nice when it happens, but I think most savvy buyers know its a coin toss as to whether doing a partial repaint will be successful.

I see there are still guys with '66 Dodge and Plymouth Hemis still asking 6 figures. I think they're deluded. In Jan '07, at the TIP TOP of the market, the NICEST ORIGINAL '66 Satellite Hemi extant, the ex-Pat McGruder/Gary McKay 1700 original mile car sold for $125K, and I think there were only 2 guys bidding past $100K. It sold for about half that when McGruder's "Factory Muscle" collection was dispersed, and was one of the last cars of that collection to be sold (and not becuase they were hiding it). The only other '66 Hemi Car that I know of to compare the Satellite to would be the mauve 6000 mile Hemi Charger. A well known drag car like Jere Stahl's Belvedere would certainly bring a premium, or one of the handful of Belvedere ragtops. You might talk about the '66 4 door that brought the big money, but we all remember how long that car ran around before it found the right two guys to bid it up.
But at the end of the day, most 66 Hemis have always seemed to sell for a 30-50% discount from whatever equivalent'68-70 B-bodies sell for. It appears $60K or 70K buys you a very nice '66 Hemi car without much of a to-do list.

Well, there's my take on it. And until somebody actually pays you money for your car, its neither RIGHT or WRONG at this point. Its my OPINION.

How correct is the driveline? I see its missing a few of the detail pieces. Friend sold his real born with 426 motor all born with sheetmetal Bel. for 90k and it was correct correct correct down to date coded tires.

Many 68 and all 67 back Mopars did not have the V.I.N. stamped on the engine or trans.

The engine for this car is casting date correct for the year and the scheduled production date, so the ASSUMPTION is that it is the original engine. The trans is a 1968 and the rear end is correct 1966 Dana.

What detail pieces do you see that it is missing? If you are talking about original type battery or date coded belts and wiring, that is for the buyer to add if it is a concern. They are normal wear items so I don't bother with them.

I like the color myself, I would be tempted to clean up some of the easy stuff, IE shifter, distributor, wires and coil, radiator cap, decals, and the such, good luck with the dash pad, A friend of mine has bean trying to sell a 66 belvedere convert 4 speed, that has had a high detail restoration, he can't seem to pull the 2005 money out of this car as nice as it is, I see nothing wrong with painting the exterior of the car, paint match shouldn't be that big an issue, unless the car has a race history that can be documented, I would make it look as original as possable, "COOL CAR" either way

I don't know what your car is worth, but thought I would post a photo of a similiar car. I went to high school with the owner. His dad bought it new and he inherited it several years ago. It's a 4 speed but I don't know how it's optioned, otherwise.

That appears to be a nice original looking car.

That Is a Coronet DELUXE and is the next step up in the price catagory for 1966 from the BASE model. After the Deluxe there is a 440 and a 500 model.

They built 49 1966 Coronet Deluxe 2 door sedans with a Hemi. 31 4 speeds and 18 autos, so that car is one of 31 built.

The deluxe had the side chrome, chrome drip rail moulding, a different seat upholstery, and color keyed (rather than black) rubber floor mat.
The BASE model had none of those things. The only chrome the BASE model has are the Coronet & Dodge emblems, grille, tail lights, windshield and rear window surround, bumpers, and the small peice at the base of the "C" pillar.

I too like the color. I am not a fan of green but the turquoise is really more of a blue-green, and I LOVE blue.

Those are personal taste and race specific item. In fact, I bought and installed the pistol grip shifter for the car for myself as it is the most race/shift friendly shifter I have ever used.

I rebuilt this car with the intentions of racing it in a stock NHRA class thinking I could get away without having to install a roll bar. That has turned out not to be the case, and street racing is just to expensive if you get caught today. So with this in mind I just can't bring myself to put a roll bar in this car, so it is for sale.

I have one of the original crappy Inland shifters for the car that goes with it if someone wants to re-install it. The distributor and wires are not that big of a deal regarding cost. I truely believe that anyone that wants to buy this car will want to race it and will be satisfied with it as is with regards to these things. Maybe I am wrong. However when I look at a car that has something I would want changed I simply factor the cost of it into my offer. I also have the original hub caps, an extra hood, and a fiberglass Hemi hood scoop that will go with the car as well.

This car would make a great F.A.S.T. car with factory exhaust manifolds rather than the headers.

Those are my intentions at this time.

I have sold MANY cars over the years long distance and sight unseen for the buyer. More often than not the buyers after receiving the car have called and thanked me stating that the car was better than they were expecting. This is why I prefer to point out what I feel are negatives up front on a car like this.

This car is not for EVERY buyer. It looks like a grandma grocery getter. No evidence of it being a performance car other than the small engine emblem. Basically a drag car although it is perfectly street drivable as a fair weather car.

It is a car that the people that appreciate a stripped down, all business, sleeper, factory build, low mileage, original type car will find attractive for what it is.
