On non Gran Coupes Plymouth E-bodies, if you ordered the leather interior you could get the roof consolette as part of the interior package.

The ONLY way the console was available was on the SE. Do you have a link to a Plymouth Dealer Data Book or Color and Upholstery Book that confirms this? I have a bunch of Govier's white books and there is no reference to this at all. |

[/ QUOTE ] Althought the bio on the attached link said he bought it in 1970, I thought it was 71. He bought it from a fellow in Chicago with approximately 900 miles on it. He paid around $3000. He made some modifications and raced it a few times. He moved to Arizona from Illinois around 1977 and the car sat since. He took it in for the restoration about two years ago. I haven't spoken to him in a few months but it should be close to being finished. Some of the correct hemi parts were hard to find. He had to replace a few things that he tossed in the garbage in the 70's.

I stand corrected.
I learned something new today. I DID find it in GGs white book. I was looking in the list of packages but it is coded as a "stand alone option" but is in fact a package of items. It is sales code C26 and is described as follows: "consolette with formed headlining. Includes door ajar warning light and buzzer, warning light for low fuel & seat belts, and a formed headlining. Std. with Grand Coupe and Challenger SE. So, apparently it has nothing to do with the stand alone leather seat option when it was ordered on cars that it was not std. on--Grand Coupe & SE, unless there was some kind of note in the factory price guide or Data Book the made one of the other required when ordering. Contrary to what some have said here, I know of no case what equipment is NOT coded in one way or another on the B/S. Sometimes you have to know what is included in a package it is coded in. I would gues that this would be coded in the "C" section between rear arm rests and headliner delete as the is a space for a 2-- code there. |

I have yet to see a leather seat car without the over head console? I would guess if you order the leather seats you got the c26 option in 1970.

I am no Mopar expert, but here is a Cuda owned by a friend, leather interior with the overhead console. http://www.hispeedcustoms.com/IMAGES...ples/index.htm [/ QUOTE ] The fender tag has the interior code that indicates it is a premium bucket seat black leather seats, but that does not reference an overhead console with it. What I am looking for is some kind of factory data or literature that confirms the console was available alone or came with the leather. There is nothing on the fender tag to indicate a overhead console. Not all options were indicated on the FT so I am not surprised by that. There is also no place on the broadcast sheet to indicate an overhead console (only the floor console) so it would have to be part of a package. As I said, the info I have shows no such package or a sales code for it. So, how would the factory workers know how to build it? There is a place for codes on the B/S for "items not broadcast above" and there is a remarks section that it COULD have been shown. I am not saying anything is WRONG with this car, I would just like to see some proof about this console and it's availability. |

This is the second 6 pack 70 Cuda' I have had with the leather bucket seat interior, they both had the overhead console, if you check Galen's option book it states the high grade bucket seat option package as including the overhead console, that is in 70 only, I also have a 71 Cuda' with the leather and it does not have the overhead console, There is a build sheet for this car, but I am on the hunt for the previous owner in Canada to obtain it, I will also be looking to obtain early photo's if possible. as I said I bought this car on a sealed bid auction. (bankruptcy) appears to be the issue at hand with the owner?

[/ QUOTE ] Maybe on a Plymouth but not on a Dodge. The ONLY way the console was available was on the SE. [/ QUOTE ] That's why I said on Plymouth E-bodies. Dodge was different, as it was part of the SE package in 70 and the Formal Roof package in 71. There are a lot of things on these cars that aren't coded on the fender tag or on the broadcast sheet yet still appear because they are part of a package. When the leather interior was ordered it came with a different headliner material. That was the clue for the guys on the line to install the overhead consolette, as the material on the consolette matched the unique headliner. |
