Default Re: What was your 1st car?

I know this is an OLD thread, but i have to add mine. My first car was in 1989, I bought a 1970 Malibu 307. Gold with black stripes and would burn the tire off of the right rear. I paid $100 for it and drove it home. I rolled it over on a dirt road about 6 months later. That was the end of that one and I have been hunting another one since.
I finally got my Mom's 1966 Mustang 289 Coupe that she bought when I was 6 (1980) and have been s l o w l y working on it between customer's cars.

1976 Datsun B210 - Cost me 100 bucks! There was more rust than steel! My dad and I put one hell of a lot of bondo on that car It would backfire ever time I wound her out a bit and then shifted.

Every once in a while the seat would give way and the seat back would drop backwards.... that was interesting.

The night I bought it my buddy, who knew how to drive stick, took us for a crazy ride through a wooded lot near my house. Nearly wet myself from laughing so hard!! How we didnt slam into a tree is still a mystery. There were also some backfire flames seen from the muffler as we came up the NJ Turnpike.

I decided to drive it to school after a stick driving lesson from my dad..... I got stuck during rush hour in the middle of an intersection! I kept stalling.

The antifreeze was turning a bit frothly and brown. Got to replace a head gasket for the first time! A great experience.

This was also the car that I taught a buddy of mine to drive stick in a snowy parking lot... damn that car would do great donuts in the snow!

Sold the car a few years later when I bought my 1970 Camaro SS... sold it for $100

1970 Dodge Coronet R/T 440 Magnum auto. Bought it in June of 70 off the showroom floor of Lynn Hickey Dodge in Oklahoma City. This is the only photo I have of it taken in April of 71 when my daughter was 11 months old. Had to let it go not long after the photo was taken. Couldn't afford the huge $124 a month car payments, not to mention the insurance. Traded it in on a 72 VW Bug with $76 payments...and no air conditioning. Funny, I would absolutely die driving around Oklahoma with no air now days, but it didn't seem to bother me back then.

Naw..................can't be true Jacquie. You yourself were barely 11 months old in 1970!

What a car and what a gearhead you must have been (and still are!)

1963 Rangoon Red/White Interior Ford Galaxie XL 500 R Code 427 Convertible.

My dad bought this car new for my mother in 1963. I "claimed" the car when I started driving in December 1974. I drove the car through high school and college.

I sold the car in 1981 after college graduation to a collector for $10K. I "though" I killed him!
