Default Re: Bill Thomas Fastback Novas ?

I see conflicting info here. The printed info from back in the day (or maybe more recently) says that the cars were sent to the Corvette factory for the fiberglass top and IRS, then shipped to Bill Thomas. Others say no, they didn't go to the Corvette factory.

Knowing how the auto manufacturers TYPICALLY did these types of things I too doubt that they shipped the entire car to a completely different factory. It was more cost effective to have an independant shop do the retro fit work.

I could be wrong here, but I thought that Kim Madsen had told me that the three he knew of were his dsd's car, one each for Smokey & Grumpy. I have seen NOTHING here about either one of them having one of these cars. He said nothing about Bill Thomas having one. SO, does this nean that Thomas built his cars from the factory available "kit" of parts. Was it a "kit" from Chevrolet OR did Bill Thomas create the "kit?"

As far as the top and who made what, it was very common back in the day for people to pull molds off of the original parts to make copies. Not to mention when the originals were made they would have made spare replacement parts as well. This would go for additional parts for the "kits."

Who know how many "other" cars COULD have been made?
