No kidding? I had no idea. That would get very annoying. Would be a good anti-theft device though.

That's the beam-type sensing switch installed in the front seat cushions that was part of the federally-mandated seat belt interlock system that prevented you from starting the car unless the seat belts were fastened. Public outrage finally got to the point that Congress rescinded the law; I remember the night in 1974 that we took it out of production at Lordstown and disabled it on every car on the property that hadn't been shipped yet.
