Don't you mean you are in need of a generator instead of an alternator?
You might try these guys http://studeparts.com/ on the odd chance since Studebaker and Packard were combined in 1956.

I did a GM 1 wire alternator on my generator equipped '57 Ford wagon, pretty simple conversion. Google search "1 wire alternator conversion".
