I have the hard cover book about the Grand Sports and if you look at the book and all the variations of the car, you'd think they built 100 of them. The original style with no flares is beautiful. What a shame that they axed the program. GS #1 sat under a tree here in Austin for years after being damaged at a local track. The owner wanted $18,000 for it for years back when you could buy a well optioned new Corvette for $6,000. Finally sold to Jerome Shinkay in about 1973.

Tim, Jerome sure owned some great cars. He even owned my red 67. Amazing what these cars are worth. Remember back not to long ago when we all could have bought the Delmo Johnson Z06 that was a basket case for 25K? Or when the history was discovered and restored by Nabers and could have paid 300K for it? I'm still kicking myself over that one.

What did the #002 Grand Sport sell for at RM in Jan, anyhow? I remember reading a ton about it and never saw much after that.
It's being said 8 figures for the Shelby. It's going to be interesting in any event. Can't wait to watch it all on HDNet next month! Gotta clear my DVR out so I can record it. |

The #002 GS was bid to 4.5 million and was a no sale. I too have heard that the Cobra coupe will fetch 8 figures. It should be fun to see.

Tim, I am not sure, he sold the car in 1985 to a Bloomington Gold judge who then restored it. This was before preservation was promoted as you know and cars had to be in as new condition to do well. I have pics of it before it got restored, the car would have easily benchmarked! If you could scan and email the ad to me I would really
apppreciate it.

------Tim,,,The no.1 GS was sold out of Texas to us at Classic Motors in 1977/8. We restored it with some help from Tom Turnas from Detroit who did the chassis and located the 377 c.i. aluminum small block and the side-draft Weber 58s. Tom worked at the Tech Center during the day. You could stick your whole hand down in one of the barrels of a 58 Weber. We restored it red with red gut because the only person on earth who wanted it at the time was Jerome. Jeromes favorite color was, you guessed it, RED!!! Even then we had to take about twelve cars in trade. I remember a Fly Yellow Daytona flop top was one of them and the maroon low mile 396 roadster that Krughoff ended up with was another.

Anyone have any more info on Jerome Shinkay? I am assuming he is a significant collector. What other cars does he or has he owned??
