Leach was kind enough to send me the shots via e-mail and I am temporarily hosting them resized on my website. Over the years I have found that even early wreck photos can help us learn a little more of what is correct on these cars.

In this case all I can say is the greatest thing that can be learned is to use good judgment no matter the age of the car. This is indeed one of the worst wreck shots I have seen in quite a while. We all even though very late should feel a bit of the pain that the families involved have gone through and wish them the best.

Wow, much clearer! Nose stripe area not visible. Maybe the black wheels were his winter set judging by the snow tires out back? Those wheels look like 5.5-inchers rather than the stock FC 6-inchers that would be factory. If those are the stock FC wheels then it was a drum brake car.

This is but one example of what happened to so many musclecars over the years. You can see why the insurance industry worked so hard to de-fang the musclecar and by the early 1970s had basically succeeded.

Bill, Insurance co. had nothing to do with the death of super cars. Try the fed. govt. Daniel Moynihan Started it. He was a environmetialist worked on acid rain & geenhouse effect. Also a member of the democratic party.

Insurance companies lobbied hard to get the government (yes, with help from environmentally activist politicians) to de-claw the American musclecar. I agree that pollution control was an aspect of the death of the American musclecar but the insurance companies were losing too much money paying-off wrecked and stolen musclecars. Thousands of musclecars wound up just like that Marina Blue '67 SS and the claims were eating into the insurance companies' bottom lines.

Bill, we passed the cost on to the consumer. We rated Hi- po cars back and still do today. I have been in the Ins. bus. for 37 years. I might have a ideal of what they have done in the pass.

Example the stupid seat belt law. 1972 5,000.00 medical on a auto pol. was 5.00 Today 37 years later it's 9.00 Do you think we care about seat belts? NO Just another thing the govt. has done for your safety. The state of Iowa our new GOV. added a 1.00 tax per pack of cigarettes. Of course they say this for my health. To stop me smoking right. Then they pass a law you can't smoke in a bar. I don't remember the last time I went in bar for my health. Idiots.
