Not junk. Clean em up a little and use them. They might have had some surface rust sitting on the shelves at GM 35 years ago. Besides if your car had a warranty problem in lets say 1970 those lifters would have went in your motor and you would never have known it. If they were never used I think you are in good shape. But....if you are throwing them out PM me!

Only thing I might check is to make sure the top oil oriface is free from rust/debris/whatever...pretty important that oil can go through it, and you don't want any junk going through your oil system.

Those are clean and fine with no rust or discoloration. It is just on the flat surface that rides on the camshaft.
