[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I'm guessing the generally accepted filter for the '70 and earlier is the square mesh vs. the expanded metal. [/ QUOTE ] You surely seem to be a knowledgeable fellow based on what I've read from your posts, but, I'll respectfully point out you've stated yourself that you are 'guessing'. [/ QUOTE ] Exactly Mark. Not in any way questioning you. It was just a quasi response to Randy's query. No offense intended.

Dennis, I didn't sense any disrespect from you at all. My apologies if it came across that way. I was just quoting you to make a point. Man oh man, it is a never ending job trying to discover all the running changes and really pin them down. I wish I would not have been born such an anal retentive.

Speaking of that, Jeff Skiles has been my First Officer on several occasions at US Airways. He is a great guy and a great pilot. He and Sully did a pretty job last month, didn't they?

"Charlie certainly has some great cars that could serve as examples. Charlie, is the air filter element on the car described in the above post absolutely known to be an original, or better yet, THE one that came attached on that car from the assembly plant? If so, how is that known?"
Norman stated to me that the only thing he did was remove the battery. It also looks like someone replaced one hose clamp but this car is very very untouched. I had to remove the air cleaner and pry the stuck lid off. It has never had the oil or filter changed. There is no way he would change the element after 1100 miles. He will be in Chicago when I have the car there in November. Great guy to talk to . When you talk to him and see th car up close you will have no doubts. |

Mark...it was not my intention to enter into a pissing match with you, I was just wondering where you came up with your info on this filter. I'm sure that you are a very nice guy too but the fact remains that Charley's 1100 mile un touched 1970 Z28 survivor car has this very filter element in it, and thus is contradictory to your statement of not being correct for pre 1974 vehicles..at any rate I wish I would have read this thread sooner, I would have bought it! Great item man!!!
