"Now if a "BL" was restamped they would have to do the E for eaton as well, a BL is 3:07 open, no E for eaton, (hence a L changed to look like a E in "BE" would not match a fresh E for eaton)"

I respectfully disagree with this statement. I have had to tell several people that their swap meet deal was not such a great bargin due to restamped "L"s.

Im not sure what you disagree on, The BL is for 307 open or they would have to stamp a E for eaton because a a BL would have no second E, I agree that there are alot of fakes out there, I have been told mine is a fake and I have been told its real, It doesnt matter much to me it came in my car, and probably going back in. Alan and other members here have been great in clearing things up

Correct that a BL = 3.07 open.

This is the statement section that I disagree with.

"(hence a L changed to look like a E in "BE" would not match a fresh E for eaton)"

You got the pic posting down your car is a good one to restore, with what you have said I would say it is a 375hp car by the big block heater box and 6k tach take a pic on the frame mounts for the engine, and bolt holes on the tranny cross member. That would really be a good one to keep if you can Todd
