Why don't you look for a nos one? they are not that hard to find, Try a mercruser dealer, probably be in a 36- part area they used them in the early HP engines up to 90 for the HP465 and early HP500 so did Volvo and the jet pack suppliers, I might still have a nos one I would need to look but I have had quite a few in the Qicksiver package (mercruiser) alot of people looking for engine parts and hardware forget about marine they just got their parts from the OE's there were way more Big hp gm engines put in the marine field than ever dreamt on the street. The only reason alot of the factory stuff is still available is because of the big contracts with mercruiser and volvo.

Wow, new perspective, thanks. I’ve always thought these caps were rather elusive to find. Prior to posting, I did a Goggle searched and I remember seeing MerCruiser in the list. I just assumed they would supply only a functional replacement. Do you if theirs has the square configuration on the rivet bottom (the end that gets “smashed”, for lack of better terms), original profile, SM stamp, etc?
If you have one, please let me know. I attached a couple pictures of the cap GM#3851735. Thanks, Scott |

They are the same, not a very good pic with the wires covering it, but I took these off a merc motor for beater, I use to have a bunch of them but a furnace explosion in my garage a few years ago took out about 300k in inventory parts and engines I had kept from Performance Marine. I have a few items left not sure if I have any new ones still, but I will take a look when I get a chance.

Will do Scott, no insurance did not cover the contents, I had just sold Performnce Marine, the new owners were going to take it in a new direction (they failed)so I kept alot of the inventory they did not need or want. I just Moved to Utah from Arizona I was robbed and my truck stolen Broke in my trailer stole parts (one claim) broke into dually stole stereo (second claim) the dirt bags found a set of keys to my other truck in dually and stole that truck (third claim) well my insurance cancelled me for 3 claims in a year then. I never recieved a notice, one month later it got cold turned on the heater in the garage about thirty min later boom it all went up alot of blocks complete engines two corvettes one chevelle a few motorcycles and alot of inventory, I contacted my insurance co they said i was cancelled and were nice to send me my notice then, got a attorney after a year of spending money on it I quit. the only good thing I have a judgement I can do nothing with on the thiefs that stole my stuff in the first place, The police got them a few days later.

Now that just plain sucks! I see/hear it time and time again. We pay premiums for years and years and then something happens that is completely out of our control and they stick it to us. I cannot believe they got away with not covering the explosion since they never formally terminated you. I guess that would be your word against theirs. Like some women, can't live with them, can't live without them.......

Guess, I should/could start a NEW thread, but HOW DO you insure misc, extra, loose auto parts stored inside your home, attached garage.
Every homeowners company I've asked told me NO, and auto insurance companies will only cover together/complete cars. Thanks
