Collector cars going over seas

We have had a lot of cars coming in to New Zealand from the US over the last few years but that has slowed down a lot recently mainly because of the economy and our lousy exchange rate. One US dollar costs us about $1.80 NZ and by the time taxes etc are added a $40K (US) car can cost us about $85K NZ dollars.
We have a very strong American car and muscle car culture down here and the cars are very well looked after.
We have one of our biggest shows of the year this coming weekend.
It is the Kumeu Classic Car and Hot Rod festival, about 50-60,000 visitors are expected over the two days.

I spoke with a classic Corvette dealer and he said that he has sold cars that were going to Dubai.

Ask Nils (NEW on this board). He will give you a good idea of the international car market from his area. My 27k mile '70 Camaro went to Norway along with my brother's old '72 Nova SS 350. Nils has some serious muscle but I do not want to say more without his consent.

I have a customer I visit in Paducah, KY that has sold a few cars to a gentleman in Sweden. He sends someone with cash to pay for the car and have it put in a container for shipping. Another customer of mine in hopkinsville recently sold a 35 ford pickup to someone in Germany. The only emails I get from overseas are from some guy that can't type and wants to deposit several million in my bank acct....

Hello.

There has been coming quite a few cars over here to Europe the last year. However since August 08, the exchange rate between for example Norwegian Krone, and USD has gone north about 40%.

So having that coming in on you, when you know where it came from, is probably slowing it down for a while. Where the exchange rate is at now, is the average over years, it was very very low, so i think the buying will pick up again.

Most of the cars coming to Northern Europe is regular, normal driver cars. A few low mileage cars and so, but it is far far between LS6s, COPO's, Yenko's, L88s, Hemi's and so.

In Norway, there is quite a big scene on the Mustangs, so there is actually coming in quite a few Shelby's, Boss and so on.

But my point is, for the rarest of them all, i wouldnt worry, the market outside USA is there, but with few, and if they go somewhere, you can always send it back, the market is international, and your cars appeal to people from all around the world.

I have personally brought quite a few cars over here, and have gotten to know quite a few good people here, and there. Which is the fun part.
