Greg - She had kind eyes. Very sorry. They really become a part of the family. We lost our lab, Cubby, this summer. She helped raise my boys and watched out for them. She was my "helper" at the Pavillions. We are better people for having them in our lives.

This might be too sappy for men that don't eat quiche.

So sorry to hear about your loss. It's so hard when you have a dog for so long and you have to make that decision.

I admire your vet for coming to the house so your friend could leave this earth in the place she felt the most loved in.

When our Basenji, Blarney died of a brain tumor at age 9 he passed away in his favorite spot, (lieing against the heat vent in the living room.) The brain tumor had rendered him blind and paralyzed and we asked multiple vets if they would come to our house to put him to sleep but they all refused. We just didn't have the heart to drag him out to a cold vets office.

He ended up passing away on his own, on St. Patricks Day 2001, while my wife was sitting at the piano, right next to him, talking on the phone with her mom. So he left this earth hearing the voices he loved so much.

His best friend dog, Patty died 2 years later on the exact same day: St. Patricks Day.

For years whenever the heat would come on we would still the drapes move and we could swear we could see his shape behind the drapes.

When we got another Basenji after Blarney passed, that dog immediately picked that same heater vent as his favorite spot too. So I guess that was a sign that he left some good Karma (or Dogma?) there.

So sorry for your loss.

Greg..I know exactly what you're going through right now. I went through the same earlier this year...my dog"Chance" was my very best friend and I still think about him daily. My heart goes out to you and your family!
