My understanding is that area was painted with aluminum/silver paint to cover bare metal between head and intake. This also why the intake bolts,engine lift brackets and distributor hold down had aluminum overspray. I believe this is why the wirestands were touched up by brush (due to silver overspray). These are the areas/details jewels of information that can only be found on true survivors.

Any overspray on the valve covers??

Apparently the the drivers wire shield brackets were installed before the engine was painted... the pass were one piece and installed afterwards. It may have to do with how the manifolds are shaped... mid exit on drivers vs rear on the pass.

It looks like the silver was sprayed in order to protect the bolt heads from flash rusting.
