Great pic! Janesville was a major rail distribution point for Chevy.

Remarks: CNW train #576, with 5 loads and 46 empties (left) readies for departure to Proviso from South Janesville yard on a Sunday afternoon. It is viewed from atop a loaded autorack of 1970 Camaros fresh out of the GM plant at Janesville. At one point, GM employed over 7,100 (1978), and by 2005 over 16 million vehicles had been produced there. GM will cease all production at this plant 12/23/08, ending nearly 85 years of auto/truck building in J'ville. This is one of over 270 CNW images the Nelsons will show on the huge screen at the NWI-NRHS meeting in Rockford, IL., 10/25/08, at St. Marks Lutheran Church, railpictures.net viewers in the area are invited to this free show which begins after 7pm.
