I've heard the story's since I was a kid that anyone in Northern California that was into drag racing from the 50's through the 70's,has been to or heard of Kingdon Drag Strip.My dad told me that every Tuesday night Kingdon was the place for grudge racing and that he had seen some of the greats run out there, TV Tommy Ivo, Big Daddy Don Garlits, and Don the "snake" Purdome.Well like so many other dragstrips Kingdon was closed down in 1978 and then later used as a small private landing strip, but 28 years later a small business owner decided to jump through all of the city and county hoops not to mention out of pocket money (a process that would take a year to do) in order to open the track for one day of racing.
