Re: Look what I found!!
"The trick here is there's no one to contest it (I don't think!)."
Be careful here as the vehicle value now as it sits may not be enough for someone to contest title....it's later when you've got your failed marriage and left nut into it, that's when the value may be worth someone's time and money spent on legals?
If indeed you did make a verbal deal with the biker-owner guy, do you even know yet if the title is or ever was in this character's name? . Run the Vin and if in someone else's name, you may have better luck trail to follow anyway? . If in his name or not in the database, keep whatever results for your file. . . If you know when you made the verbal deal with the owner, get this stuff written down in the file before you forget it and keep everything in a format that's organized if it ever has to be presented. . I take it the shop owner is still around and it was his "aquaintance's" car? . Perhaps you can persuade the shop guy to provide a storage bill on the car that you can pay in lieu of the remaining balance you owe on the deal? . I'd suggest an extra amount of $ too as good ol' cash just seems to work wonders sometimes! . If the shop guy is a go, before you pay the cash or move the car, post the standard newspaper ad w/ brief description of the vehicle including the Vin looking for the owner to come forth if he has any interest in the car....this is an important part to include in the file (hopefully this Vin isn't a Mopar V-Code or Hemi car or something that attracts attention to other enthusists....if so, lets rethink this part). . Do any personal searches you can for the guy always printing off the results for the file. . Take pictures of the car as and where it sits noting current condition for the file too. . If you're doing the storage deal w/ the shop guy, make sure you get something in writing stating what's transpired and file it too. . As discussed, getting the title is the easy part, defending it if necessary the hard part. . If you're organized (and especially if the opponent isn't) you have great reason why someone wouldn't bother fighting. . If they do, you stand a greater chance of sucess anyway. . Good luck! . Can you tell us what the car is now? ~ Pete
