I believe it was Fran Preve from the Tonawanda plant that came up with the figure of 358 427 engines that were built for the Chevelle application. 10% of that number were built for over the counter sales and warranty replacements. That left the 323 for the assembly line, strictly an estimate.
Assembly # 3964268 = Spec. high perf. L72, M40. 93 built.
Assembly # 3964269 = Spec. high perf. L72, Standard 265 built.
I understand that 30 COPO Chevelles came into Canada. I don't know if any were Yenkos. Probably not. With the US having 10 times our population, sales figures work out roughly the same. That would make about 330 COPO Chevelles built in total. This is right in line with the 323 estimate.

Chevelleless after 46 years......but we did find a low mileage, six speed, silver 2005 Corvette. It will just have to do for now.
