I remember a lot of guys in the early 1980s just running glass packs off of the headers (or not too far back), and pipes that came off of the mufflers at a 45 deg angle exiting just in front of the rear tires. The same 'look' as AAR Cudas / T/A Challengers had from the factory. Dumping the exhaust under the car wouldn't pass PA state inspection, but having the tailpipes clear the rocker just in front of the rear tires was perfectly legal.

The glass packs I remember most guys using were the rounded case models like the purple hornies shown above, not the thrush style above with the rolled ends. Walker "Royal Scot" was a popular model - they were painted a dark red color.
