Not sure if this helps (or complicates the matter further), but my first car was a '68 Firebird. The paint code on the trim tag simply said "SPECIAL". The color was a unique deep blue. I haven't studied paint codes but that's the first ampersand I've seen used for a paint code. Interesting stuff!
