It's bad on the fuel level sending units on the newer cars, I just replaced the whole unit in my Grand Cherokee and the gauge doesn't after only 6 months, same with my dad's Suburban approx 6 months.
It's horrible in the older vented systems because they exchange air with the atmosphere, so as long as you have moisture in the air it will be absorbed by the ethanol and then end up as water in the tank.
